Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories, Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.

Auditions are open to students in 2nd-12th grades – no matter which school you attend. Be a part of this wonderful story of transformation and acceptance!

Audition Videos are Due by November 2nd!


Step 1: Read through the Guide and tutorials for Auditioning

Read the Audition Guide for details BEFORE submitting your audition forms!

Please review the REHEARSAL and PERFORMANCE schedules to ensure you do not have conflicts.

Review the TIME and VOLUNTEER Commitments for families.

Review how to audition beginning on Page 5 and the character descriptions on pp. 6-8.

Step 2: Complete the Audition/Permission Forms

Performers

Audition Form

All young people in 2nd-12th Grades who wish to PERFORM must complete the audition form which includes creating a monologue video and a song video. Be sure to read the Audition Guide above prior to submitting your form!

Tech Crew

If you are interested in helping behind-the-scenes and you are in 8th-12th grades, just check that box on the Audition Form. You do not need to submit videos for the audition. You will need parent permission forms to participate.

Tech Crew will be scheduled to attend specific rehearsals and all of Tech Week and performances.

Parents

Permission Form

PARENTS of all Performers and Tech Crew members must complete the Permission form which includes rehearsal dates and participation expectations.

Step 3: Attend the November 9th Audition/Rehearsal and Parent Meeting

After attending the audition rehearsal on November 9th, all performers and tech crew will complete commitment forms which will include show payments. Parents are REQUIRED to attend the information session on November 9th from 12 NOON to 1 PM. We will tour the Dupree facility and answer questions about the time and financial commitments to being a part of The Little Mermaid, Jr.

The following fees will be due within 48 hours of the Casting Announcement:

Production Fee – $100 (to help defray venue rentals, set construction, advertising, etc)

$30 Actor Script Fee (each performer needs a copy of the script – the Souvenir Script is the best option for learning songs and lines and taking direction notes)

Costumes will be provided by the Performer:

The Costume Manager(s) and Directors will approve you costume selections. Most costumes can be purchased through Amazon or other costume outlet. Price varies.

After casting, each performer will know the costuming expectation for their role(s). We will share a Costume Idea Board (slides with pictures of what the Directors are looking for in costume options)

Additional Show Fee Options

Show Shirt (approx. $20) – Great way to advertise the show and be a part of the team (parents and family members will be able to order show shirts as well!)

Show Posters ($5) – A great souvenir of the show and you can have your fellow cast and crew members sign your poster.

Souvenir Playbill ($5) – You will have access to the digital playbill, but the printed version is a great souvenir that you can add to your collection of Playbills!

Family Commitments

TIME is the biggest requirement from families – you will be driving your child(ren) to and from rehearsals, helping them memorize lines and song lyrics (singing along yourself!)

We will have sign ups for the following:

  • Rehearsal Snacks
  • Set and Prop Construction
  • Donation requests (props, set pieces, gift cards for raffles, etc)
  • Program Ad Sales
  • Social Media Promotion
  • Show Week Volunteers
    • Backstage
    • Dressing Rooms
    • Green Room Snacks and Drinks
    • Box Office
    • Ushers
    • Concessions
    • Merchandise
    • Raffles and Auctions

As you can see, putting on a show is a BIG COMMITMENT from the families as well as the performers. We will discuss the expectations and answer questions at our REQUIRED PARENT INFORMATION MEETING on Saturday, November 9th from 12-1 PM at the Irving Arts Center.
