Here are a couple productions of Lion King, Jr you can watch for ideas about costumes, staging, makeup, sets, etc. The IYT production will not be the same, but it will be similar.

Any student who is currently in Kindergarten through 8th grade is eligible to audition and/or register for the camp.  Any student currently in 9th grade or above may assist with the camp as a counselor or part of the tech crew. There is no registration fee for counselors or tech crew.

The camp will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church from 9 AM to 4 PM, with the option of 1 hour early drop off and 1 hour late pick up. Parents must reserve those dates by June 1st.

ALL Parents are required to attend the Parent Meeting on June 1st to review camp expectations, production information and how each family will be involved in the show.


Video Auditions – Monologue & Song selection – will be submitted through a separate Google Form – Click Here! Auditions will be due April 26th and are REQUIRED for anyone wishing to have a leading role. However, your child does not need to submit an audition if they just want to be part of the summer camp and serve in the ensemble.

In order to be a part of the Lion King, Jr Summer Camp and Production, you must commit to all rehearsals and performances:

LEADS (named characters in the show – eg: Mufasa, Rafiki, Nala, etc.)

  • April 26th – Video Auditions Due Required only for those wishing to be a Lion King Lead – NO AUDITION REQUIRED FOR THOSE ONLY WANTING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CAMP AS ENSEMBLE OR CHORUS IN THE SHOW!
  • May 3rd (12:30 – 3:00 PM @ UNHP)Lion King Lead Rehearsal – Required ONLY for Lion King Leads – CAMP REGISTRATION PAYMENT is DUE for Leads!
  • May 10th (12:30 – 3:00 PM @ ORLC)Lion King Lead Rehearsal – Required ONLY for Lion King Leads

Children who only want to be part of the camp do NOT need to submit video auditions!

  • June 4-6 (9 AM to 4 PM @ ORLC) – Summer Camp Music, Art, Choreography Workshops & Rehearsals
  • June 7th (10 AM to 3 PM @ ORLC) – Set Build Saturday – Parents help while students rehearse
  • June 9-13 (9 AM to 4 PM @ ORLC) – Summer Camp Music, Art, Choreography Workshops & Rehearsals
  • June 14th (10 AM to 2 PM @ ORLC) – Set Build Saturday –  Parents help while students rehearse
  • June 16th (TBD @ IAC) – Load in and then Tech Rehearsal/Dress Rehearsal
  • June 17th (TBD @ IAC) – Performance in the Carpenter Hall at The Irving Arts Center


The Registration Fee is $350, which includes:

  • Camp fees for 9 AM to 4 PM on June 4-6 and June 9-13 (Extra Hour fees are additional)
  • $30 Souvenir Show Book 
  • $20 Show Shirt (additional shirts will be available to order for family members)
  • Art Activities

  • Some costume pieces (some costume components must be provided by the family)

  • I agree to work cooperatively with the Lion King, Jr. cast, crew, families and directors and follow all directions to help produce an excellent show.
  • I agree to read all text messages, emails, print/digital communications and respond in a timely manner.
  • I understand that my child must participate in at least 90% of all rehearsals and that dress rehearsals and performances are mandatory. (Please review the schedule prior to committing to the show!)
  • I understand that my child(ren) will check themselves in and out through our check-in table. I will be provided a car tag number to assist with pick up. I will provide the Director the name of any person who will pick up my child prior to the beginning of rehearsal.
  •  I understand that camp is from 9 AM to 4 PM. If my child needs to attend the EARLY HOUR or AFTER HOUR, I will pay $5.00 per session per day. If I am more than 10 minutes early in dropping off my child or 10 minutes late in picking up my child, I will pay the extra hour fee of $5.00 for each occurrence.
  • I understand that it is important that I bring my child to rehearsal and each performance on time and that it is imperative that I pick up my child on time.
  • I understand that my help is needed to prepare my child for the camp and the performance. I will do my best to rehearse lines and songs and prepare my child for each rehearsal and performance.
  • I agree to utilize communication tools such as email, Whats App, text messages, the Cast Page, written notes, etc. to stay informed about production deadlines and expectations.
  • I understand that each family is required to participate in volunteer options. This will be divided as equitably as possible so families may watch the one performance and also have coverage for all of the production jobs.
  • I understand that my family will provide a show basket, costume base, jazz shoes and the assigned costume(s) as noted by the Director and to be checked by the Costume Manager according to due dates. (Some costume pieces may be provided by Irving Youth Theatre.)
  • I understand that Irving Youth Theatre (IYT) is a non-profit organization relying on donations and volunteer support in order to produce theatrical performance opportunities. I agree to provide my support through volunteering (see specific areas below) and helping with ticket sales, ad sales, and supporting my child through the rehearsals and performances of this show.
  • I understand that for the safety of the children participating in IYT programs, all parents and volunteers who actively work with children must pass a background check. I will submit a copy of a current check or I will submit my information through IYT’s vendor for background checks.
  • I do hereby absolve, indemnify and hold harmless IYT, its Board of Directors, the Entertainment Series of Irving, all volunteers and directors from any liability of any kind whatsoever in the event of any damage, loss, accident, or injury sustained by me or my child(ren) while participating in any of the IYT activities, performances, or rehearsals.
  • I give permission to IYT to use any and all photos/videos/images taken by or provided to them for the promotional purposes of this show and in the future.
